Hey Everyone,
Wanted to post about the current weather conditions and touch base on the rest of the week. I know some of you may be wondering where all of this cold air is? Well, it is coming I promise. With the warm air this morning it has taken a little longer to get down here to us but, it is surely on the way. If you go 90 miles up the road to Charlotte right now its currently 38 Degrees and here in Lexington it is still in the lower to mid 60's.
I expect the cold air to get into the Columbia/Lexington area within the next 2 hours and temperatures will start falling like a rock once it gets here.
As for Sleet/Ice, I just honestly don't think were going to get anything here. The moisture is just not going to be there in order for us to see any big winter weather. Thank God. With that being said, I wouldn't rule out some sleet pellets or maybe even a snowflake later on tonight but, dont stare at the windows looking for it.
I know I said the other day that an Ice Storm may have been in the works for Thursday but, that just simply hasn't panned out. It looks like as of now, just a cold nasty rain.
With that being said here is what I am thinking for the rest of the week...
Through Tonight - Temps falling like a rock after around 3-4PM and we will end up around 26-28 Degrees by daybreak Also expect wind chills tonight to get down to 15-20 Degrees so be mindful if you're going outside.
Winter will be with us for the rest of the week with Temps staying well below average and expect off and on showers Wednesday - Friday with the most rain coming Thursday.
Weekend is looking good as of now with Temps getting back to the mid and upper 60's

Hope Everyone Likes a Roller Coaster.....
Good Evening Everyone,
I first off want to say thank you for the continued support and trusting my weather forecasts.
Tomorrow is going to be an INSANE day of weather around here.....
No, we aren't getting snow.
No, we aren't getting severe weather.
We will experience a massive Roller Coaster of Temperatures tomorrow. When you wake up tomorrow morning, it will be somewhere around 60 degrees and it will get close to 70 by sometime around noon. Once the rain starts, it should start to cool down and a back door cold front "Wedge" will be screaming South into the Midlands.
We could see some Sleet or Freezing Rain tomorrow afternoon and evening but, I don't foresee to many issues here in the midlands but, stay tuned on that one.
What it Amounts to ???
Noon - 70ish
7PM - Temps near 30 with a windchill close to 20!
In 7 hours!
'I will put out another update before lunch tomorrow so stay tuned!!!!!

This is tomorrow at 1PM. Look at the massive Temp gradient between Myrtle Beach and Raleigh! Close to a 50 Degree differential in less than 200 Miles! |
This is 7PM tomorrow night. Notice temps are at or below freezing for most of us as the cold air is "Wedged" into the State. |
Windchill by tomorrow night will be brutal... This is 7PM tomorrow night. Somewhere in the 20 Degree Range! |
'I will put out another update before lunch tomorrow so stay tuned!!!!!

Ice Storm On The Way ???
Good Afternoon,
Wednesday I made a post about a possible winter storm on or around March 6th, needless to say things continue to trend up and all 3 models are now in good agreement about a "storm" effecting the East Coast. Timing on this storm is still kinda in question with the GFS bringing it in on March 6th but, the EURO and Canadian bring it in on March 7th.
Another factor will be the CAD (Cold Air Damming) or "Wedge" setup. How much cold air will be in place when the moisture arrives ?
There is also a small outside chance that Monday night we could see some freezing drizzle especially in areas north of Columbia.
On Thursday the GFS is now on board with a Wedge setup and low pressure developing off the Coast of Georgia and South Carolina. |
The Surface Temps will about right around freezing. Notice you can see the "Wedge" of cold air as far south as the Georgia/Alabama Border. |
With the cold air at the surface and warm air overrunning, this shows a large area of Freezing Rain developing. |
This map continues 6 Hrs later showing most of the midlands still receiving freezing rain. |
Newest GFS runs suggesting possibly .5" of freezing rain or greater! |
Monday night, SREF (Shor Range Ensemble Forecast) showing a 20% chance of Freezing Rain in the Midlands. |
Now with all this being said, this is certainly going to change over the next couple days but, the model data is suggesting another winter storm for South Carolina.
I will keep everyone updated as the situation warrants. But, for now keep this in your mind.
